Rubric for Media Critiques
* This chart is based on the assignment
that I posted on the course blog
* Keep in mind that these are general guidelines - your specific paper will have met one or more of the criteria outlined in each
section, but not necessarily all of them.
* Critiques up to one week late will be docked a full letter grade; critiques up to two weeks late will be docked two full letter grades, and anything submitted more than two weeks late will receive a zero.

Grade:
A
- Your
object of analysis is single media text, i.e. a film, CD, video game, etc.
- Your
thesis is clear and the organization of your paper is logical and
coherent.
- You
effectively apply concepts from course readings in your analysis.
- You
offer up a detailed and thorough analysis of the media text.
- Your
writing is free of spelling and grammatical errors.
Grade:
B
- Your
object of analysis is single media text, i.e. a film, CD, video game, etc.
- Your
thesis is clear but the organization of your paper could use some work.
- You
make use of concepts from course readings, but they need to be better
explained and/or situated within your analysis.
- You
offer up a thoughtful analysis of the media text.
- Your
writing contains a few spelling and/or grammatical problems.
Grade:
C
- Your
object of analysis is either unclear or unfocused.
- Your
thesis is not pronounced and your organization needs considerable work.
- You
make reference to concepts from the course but you do not explain them
well or use them effectively.
- You
offer up a mediocre analysis of the media text.
- Your
paper needs to be proofread for spelling and/or grammatical errors.
Grade:
F
- Your
object of analysis is unclear and/or disconnected to our coursework.
- Your
paper does not have a clear thesis and/or is poorly organized.
- You
do not make a clear connection between your object of analysis and concepts
(or readings) from the course.
- You
offer up a poor analysis of the media text.
- Your
paper has numerous spelling and grammatical errors.
